In this class, discover modern takes on the ancient Japanese art of shibori. Jan Quarles of Daily Fibers will talk about traditional techniques and the traditional shibori dye, the beautiful blue of indigo. She’ll fast-forward to some modern adaptations that produce strong, colorful results. We will fold, stitch, clamp or wrap and roll! You’ll learn about shibori techniques for gathering, pleating and otherwise integrating shape and pattern into a long silk scarf. You’ll then complete a scarf of your own and we’ll dye them in indigo. All materials provided, but it will be best to bring an apron or wear an old shirt. After the class, you will have a beautiful accessory to wear year round and a new curiosity about all things shibori! Fee includes a 14X72 silk scarf.

A professor of communications some of the time, with the favorite hours in my daily life I’ve been spinning and playing with color since the 1970s. Now I channel my love of color into Daily Fibers, my small business. I’ve learned a lot from Lynne Vogel and other teachers I have studied with, and I love to share that knowledge (it kinda comes naturally!)Share
